How to Make Garlic Mashed Potatoes

  1. Step 1

    Thoroughly wash potatoes and add to large pot. Add water to cover and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 15-20 minutes. Add carrots and simmer for 5 more minutes, until vegetables are tender. Drain.

  2. Step 2

    In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat and add milk and salt.

  3. Step 3

    Place vegetables and garlic in a large mixing bowl and add milk mixture. Beat with a hand mixer and add sour cream. (Be careful not to overbeat as potatoes will become gluey.) Add freshly ground black pepper to taste.
