Washington Crossing, PA (November 6, 2026) — The Rescue Mission of Trenton, NJ is reaching across state lines to ask its Pennsylvania neighbors for help this winter. On Wednesday, Nov. 18, one of the region's largest homeless shelters will hold a fundraiser at the Health eCooks® recipe Test Kitchen in Washington Crossing, PA, 15 minutes across the Delaware River from Trenton. The Mission wants its Pennsylvania neighbors to understand what winter is like for the more than 160 individuals who have nowhere warm to sleep in the small New Jersey city.
The timing matters. Federal dollars are shrinking just as the Rescue Mission expects more people than ever to need a warm bed this winter. The cuts have left the shelter vulnerable at the time of year when its emergency housing, meals, and services are needed most. The Health eCooks event gives the Mission an opportunity to ask neighbors across the river for help.
“Winters are always the most challenging time for individuals experiencing homelessness, and partnership in this moment would be life changing for so many homeless residents,” said Barrett Young, CEO of the Rescue Mission of Trenton.
“We appreciate the opportunity to share their stories and inspire our Pennsylvania neighbors to support our community during this difficult season.”
Homelessness can be hard to see from the suburbs, especially when a 1,000-foot-wide river is blocking the view. The fundraiser will put Pennsylvania residents face to face with the New Jersey team that provides essential services to people experiencing homelessness. Guests can learn how the Mission’s programs work and ways to help before the worst of winter arrives.
“Our Test Kitchen develops healthy recipes for home cooks across the country,” says Toni Donina, CEO of Baldwin Publishing and HealthEcooks.com. “Every one of us knows what a hot meal means on a cold night. Opening our test kitchen to the Rescue Mission is a way to make sure our homeless neighbors in Trenton have a meal and a bed this winter, too.”
