How to Make Apple Grilled Cheese

  1. Step 1

Butter one side of each slice of bread. Flip the bread over. On 2 slices of bread, place the cheese and apple slices. Assemble the sandwich, making sure the buttered side is facing out.

  2. Step 2

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Grill the sandwich for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden. Flip the sandwich and grill on the other side for an additional 1 to 2 minutes, or until golden and the cheese is melted.

  3. Step 3

Serve immediately, or, if packing in a lunch box, allow the sandwich to cool to room temperature before wrapping in plastic wrap. Serve with egg, grapes and carrots, if desired.

  4. Step 4

To decorate: Cut a crescent out of the bottom of the sandwich for cat “ears.” Cut an additional slice of cheese into 3 small triangles for the cat “ears” and “nose,” an oval for the “face,” and strips of carrot for the "whiskers." Reserve 1 slice of the apple and cut into the “eyes.” To make the “mouse” egg, decorate the hard-boiled egg with 2 round slices of carrot for the mouse “ears” and a small piece for the "nose" inserted in the egg.
