Healthy Kids Tuna Melts Recipe

               
Tuna melts are a classic comfort food that tastes even better with heart-healthy ingredients. Whole-wheat bread lends a hearty flavor that is filling, fast and downright delicious.

Recipe yields 2 servings
3 oz light tuna, packed in water, drained and flaked
2 Tbsp chopped onion
1/3 cup chopped celery
1/8 tsp black pepper
2 Tbsp low-fat mayonnaise
4 slices whole wheat bread
1/4 cup low-fat shredded cheddar cheese

Directions
Step 1

Preheat oven or toaster oven to 400°.

Step 2

In a bowl, combine tuna, onion, celery, pepper and mayonnaise and stir gently.

Step 3

Divide tuna mixture among 2 slices of bread. Sprinkle with cheese and top with remaining 2 slices of bread.

Step 4

Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until warm, the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown. Serve immediately.
