Why You’ll Love This Healthy Chicken Wrap

Looking for a heart healthy chicken recipe that’s simple to make? This chicken mushroom wrap combines chicken breast, cucumbers, mushrooms and baby spinach to make a delicious and nutrient-dense meal that’s high in protein and low in saturated fat, sodium and sugar. Packed with chicken and vegetables, this wrap is not only delicious and nutritious, but it’s ready to eat in just 15 minutes.

Many wrap sandwiches look healthy, but they may not be if they contain lots of cheese, mayo or heavy dressings. To make a healthy chicken wrap, start by using baked or grilled chicken breast or the white meat from a rotisserie chicken. Then add plenty of fresh vegetables for color and crunch, plus lots of good-for-you nutrients. Season the chicken and vegetable mixture with herbs and spices you love or finish off your wrap with hummus or healthy sauces made from Greek yogurt, like this Bang Bang Sauce or Cajun Remoulade. Use a whole grain, whole wheat or low-carb tortilla to keep carbs in check, especially if you need it to be a diabetic chicken recipe.

You may be wondering if rotisserie chicken is healthy and if it’s a good option when you want to make a quick wrap recipe such as this. If you use rotisserie chicken without the skin and stick to the white meat (such as the breast), it’s a healthy source of protein.  One thing you need to be aware of, however, if you’re looking to make a low sodium chicken recipe, is that sometimes rotisserie chickens from the store can be loaded with sodium. So if you need to eat lower sodium foods, read labels or make your own chicken so you can control the salt.

There are plenty of tasty and healthy ways to use leftover chicken, whether you have grilled, baked or rotisserie chicken in the fridge. You can shred it and toss it in salads, wraps or sandwiches. For an easy chicken dinner recipe, add leftover chicken to soups, stews, stir-fries, casseroles or quesadillas. The possibilities are endless.
