Grip one of the orange halves tightly and squeeze it by hand while pressing down on a manual juicer to squeeze the juice out. Repeat with each orange half. For juice with pulp, with a spoon, scrape the orange and add the pulp to the juice. For clear juice, pour the juice through a strainer.
Add 1/2 oz of the ginger juice to a cocktail shaker; reserve the rest for another use. Add the fresh orange juice (or the store-bought orange juice, if using), the carrot juice and ice to the shaker and shake vigorously. Serve immediately.
